About the University of Alberta Museums
The University of Alberta Museums is a unique network of 29 museum collections, ranging from art and archaeology to paleontology and zoology where we explore life’s big questions through the collection and research of specimens, artefacts and museum objects. Totalling more than 17 million objects, the museum collections are used daily for teaching, research and community outreach.
The University of Alberta Museums leads this unique model, manages the U of A Museums Galleries at Enterprise Square - an initiative between the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta - and is responsible for the development and stewardship of the University of Alberta Art Collection.
About the University of Alberta Art Collection
The University of Alberta Art Collection has grown from modest beginnings in 1912 to a current collection of more than 10,000 objects. The Collection includes the Mactaggart Asian Art Collection as well as ethnographic collections and artifacts that relate to the University’s history. The Art Collection has been particularly active in collecting prints and works of art on paper with an international scope, and works of art that represent Canada’s artistic development, both historical and geographical.
